A Little Sister of the Poor supports an elderly person to help him cross the threshold of the home: this is the apostolate of the Congregation. The elderly person is in the foreground, while the Little Sister is in the background.  Both are walking together: the symbol of this apostolate, the heritage of Jeanne Jugan in the footsteps of Christ. The silhouette of the house has its foundations built on a circle to evoke the universality of the mission of the Little Sisters of the Poor.  It is also a protective circle.  Its circumference becomes a door, which expresses access to a world of welcoming in charity.  The door signifies a place of passage, inviting others to enter. “I am the gate.  Whoever enters through me will be saved”  (Jn 10:9).

On the wall of the home are engraved the initials of Jeanne Jugan, the foundress of the Congregation of the Little Sisters of the poor who welcomes the elderly. The unbroken life of the design shows the continuity of the work in unity and union: with the elderly, union with Christ leading to fulfilment of the whole person. Blue signifies the path to infinity and to fidelity. White is the absoluteness and the fulfilment of life; it is also the emblem of innocence and purity.
