Life of Prayer

Web Life of Prayer Sr BernadetteA Little Sister’s day is woven by prayer. Although we lead quite an active life in caring for the elderly, the driving force behind our activity is a life of prayer.  It is prayer that gives life and meaning to whatever we do, whether it be caring for the residents, collecting in offices or factories or when, because of illness or old age we are no longer able to work.
Our day begins with meditation or lectio divina (meditation on the Word of God in Scripture) and Morning Prayer of the Church. The highlight of the day is our participation in daily Mass which is shared with the elderly and anyone else who wishes to attend, and then throughout the day spiritual reading, personal prayer and adoration before the Blessed Sacrament, the rosary and Evening Prayer of the Church are the means by which we endeavour to keep our lives Christ centred, culminating just as it began in the presence of Christ in the chapel, with Night Prayer.

A monthly retreat day and an annual retreat of eight days are a wonderful means of re-focusing our “resolve to follow Christ as our one and only necessity, so as to make him the centre of our life” (Constitutions of the LSP)
