From its very beginnings Jeanne Jugan saw the need to associate others with her work and we are happy to tell you that this ‘tradition’ has remained in the Congregation right through the years. However, in more recent years (1998) the Association Jeanne Jugan was formed. This Association (approved by the Church) offers to Catholic men and women the opportunity of sharing the ideal, the spirit and the apostolic mission of the Little Sisters of the Poor. Each member of the Association by a free personal choice agrees, through an annual promise “to serve Christ with joy and love in the elderly, by following the example of humility and confidence left by Jeanne Jugan” (Statutes of AJJ).
After following a year’s formation programme the members make their promise and then renew it annually on the 1st May, the feast of St Joseph the Worker. |
To date there are over 2000 members worldwide and the numbers are growing annually throughout Ireland and the UK and indeed throughout the world.
